My best advice? Cruise the Forum threads and monitor responses to threads. Check the threads that have locks on them before they go off the board and find out why they were locked. Good luck. (If you want to, post your thread to me before you post it to the forum and I will critique it.)

So, here comes deviant X upset that there is a war somewhere, or that women are having abortions. He/she goes on a rant that shows honest concern, coupled with ignorance and/or young age.
What do you guys who are regulars there do?
a) "this is badly worded, belongs in your journal".
b) put up some links to what looks like painfully boring philosophy to anyone who hasn't been discussing that topic on forums for the last 10 months.
c) call names, patronize, act aggressive and superior in pretty much any way possible.
d) make little inside jokes to each other to further confuse the thread.
Yes, I understand it's frustrating how every topic resurfaces like crap in a dysfunctional toilet. It is tiresome that some people don't have the grasp of things that for you seem absolutely elementary. But goddamn it, if you behave that way, they'll NEVER learn.
All that happens is that they become bitter, defensive and start thinking less and biting more. And so do you. After a few attacks both parties get bored, and no one has learned a thing.
My question is, why are you here? Do you honestly look for discussion? Do you REALLY hear what other people have to say and allow your opinion to be challenged?
To me, it looks like you don't. It seems like you have pre-made opinions, and pre-made answers to some things. You seem to be here just to "pwn the noobs", not that I've ever understood what's the satisfaction in that.
Bottom line: the forums are, in my opinion, for people who are honestly open to discussion and do NOT have a set-in-stone opinion. Of course, it's ok to contradict someone, but as long as you do it in a non-patronizing way, and explain your point decently. One-liners, endless rants, and links to endless blocks of text do not help anyone. Keep it human-readable, or stay out of it.
Disclaimer: I don't want to generalize. Wherever I said "you", replace it with "some of you". This rant was triggered by actual examples, but I didn't look to see HOW many of you actually do this. Maybe it's just a small minority. I've definitely seen very well expressed opinions too.
Also, some of the thread starters are indeed horribly wrong. But as long as you don't make them reconsider (considering you have the privileged position of being more experienced in debates), you're just as useless and close-minded as them.
Rant over!
